A split system is still the most common way to cool and heat a single room, and it is also the easiest job to get wrong. An undersized unit runs constantly and never quite gets there. An oversized unit short cycles, wastes power and struggles to control humidity. We size every job to the room, not to whatever unit happens to be on special.

Why sizing matters

As a rough guide, a room needs around 150W of cooling capacity per square metre under standard conditions, but that number moves around a lot depending on your specific room. We take the following into account before recommending a unit:

Room size — floor area and ceiling height both affect the volume of air that needs conditioning
Insulation — a poorly insulated roof space or older brick veneer wall changes the heat load significantly
Sun exposure — west facing rooms with lots of glass need more capacity than a shaded room the same size
Ceiling height — high or raked ceilings add volume that a standard sizing chart will not account for

Get this wrong and you either pay too much for a unit that is overkill, or end up with one that never quite keeps up on a forty degree day. We would rather spend an extra ten minutes on site getting it right than have you call us back in twelve months.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an install take?

Most single split system installs take around half a day, from arrival to final commissioning and handover. Larger units, tricky pipe runs or older properties can take longer, which we will flag when we quote.

Do you supply the unit, or do I need to buy one?

We supply the unit as part of the job. That way you get a unit matched to your room, backed by manufacturer warranty and installed by the same team who sold it to you.

What brands do you install?

We install Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Daikin, Hitachi, Panasonic, Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Electric. If you already have a brand preference, let us know and we will quote accordingly.

Can you install where my old unit used to be?

Usually yes. If the existing pipework and electrical are in good condition we can often reuse the same location, which keeps costs down. We will confirm this on site before quoting.

Do you provide a warranty on the installation?

Yes. Workmanship is covered separately from the manufacturer's product warranty, and we will explain both clearly at the time of install.
